Some information about brass / bronze scrap metal... Mixed brass scrap metal

Bronze is one of the worl'd oldest alloys dating back several hundred years BC. Bronze and Brass are copper alloys. That means they contain mostly copper combined with various otther metals such as tin, zinc, and lead to form a new metal in the form of brass or bronze. The other elements are added depending on the uses and requirements of the metal. Strength, corrosion resistance and beauty are some of reasons for the various types of brass and bronze.

Many people wonder about the difference between brass and bronze. The are very similar in so many ways but in general brass is considered to be a copper alloy that usually contains more zinc and bronze is generally thought of with regards to it's tin content.

Scrap we DO NOT BUY.

Recycle Quick Scrap Metal specializes exclusively in non-ferrous metal.
Simply put, we only buy metals and alloys that are primarily non-magnetic.
We do not buy iron or steel which have a strong magnetic pull.

The Magnet Test.
Magnet

A good way to test whether or not we can buy your scrap metal is to test the scrap metal with a magnet. If the scrap metal you want to sell primarily consists of magnetic material we probably can't buy it.

If the material is copper, brass, aluminum etc. and contains a small amount of magnetic material we can probably buy it.

An example would be a standard aluminum ladder. It's mostly aluminum but has a few magnetic steel rivets throughout. Notice the 3 rusty rivets in the photo below? Those are steel and have a strong magnetic pull but since there is only a small amount of steel relative to the amount of aluminum in the ladder we can purchase it.

Is your scrap metal rusty?

Another way to know if you can sell your scrap metal is if it is rusting. If your scrap metal is comprised of mostly rusty metal it is ferrous metal and cannot be bought. The exception to this rule is if the rusty metal is only a small portion of the scrap metal as shown in these photos.

Another example of acceptable iron content would be this photo of "dirty" or "irony" AC Coil.

Notice the rusty steel plate holding the copper coils in place. That small amount of steel is acceptable.

If you're still unsure just give is a call and we'll be happy to assist you.

  • Washers or Dryers
  • Refrigerators

  • File cabinets

  • 400 series stainless steel
